A Delicate Balance - Veronica Bell
Original ceramics by Veronica Bell
Having studied sculpture at Sunderland University, graduating in 1995 with a BA in Art and Design, I have worked in a variety of materials. Most recently this has been in clay.
‘A Delicate Balance’, focuses on the need to cherish the ecology of our planet. I have chosen to use my love of and concern about our trees to express this. I have strayed into my concern for our oceans a little too. A continued love and respect for both of these is necessary for the health of our world.
Our trees are threatened by disease, contamination by dirty atmospheres, land clearance, and the increase of uncontrolled fire. They perform the very important tasks of absorbing carbon and producing oxygen for our world. They also support an enormous amount of biodiversity. Recently, scientific understanding has made clear the extraordinary ways in which trees communicate to support each other and protect their continued existence.
We understand less about our oceans, so deep and so much more difficult to explore, but their place in maintaining a crucial balance in the worlds ecology has become much clearer.
To be cherished, trees and the oceans need our knowledge and protection against destructive actions of us humans.
